An 18-year-old Boston woman whose body was discovered inside a rental property in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood has died as the result of a homicide, according to authorities. Investigators announced that the death of Yoseliani Ann Marte Ocasio was officially ruled a homicide after the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined she died from a single gunshot wound.
The Boston Police Department identified the victim as Yoseliani Ann Marte Ocasio, an 18-year-old Boston resident. Officers were dispatched to a residence at 25 Malta Road at approximately 1:52 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, after receiving a call requesting assistance. Upon entering the home, officers discovered Ocasio unresponsive inside a rear bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a forensic examination, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded that Ocasio’s death was caused by a single gunshot wound and formally classified the manner of death as homicide. The ruling confirmed investigators’ suspicions that the teenager’s death resulted from a criminal act rather than an accident or self-inflicted injury.
The property where Ocasio was found is a rental home owned by Conan Harris, the husband of U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley. Authorities have not indicated that either Harris or Representative Pressley is suspected of any wrongdoing, and the investigation remains focused on determining who was responsible for the fatal shooting.
In the days following her daughter’s death, Ocasio’s mother, Elenie Ocasio, publicly expressed her grief while rejecting any suggestion that her daughter may have taken her own life. She said she firmly believes her daughter was murdered and called for justice, insisting that the truth about what happened will ultimately be revealed.
Speaking emotionally, Elenie Ocasio described the loss as devastating and said her daughter did not deserve such a tragic end. She expressed confidence that investigators would uncover the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the person responsible.
Boston police continue to investigate the homicide and are working to establish exactly what occurred inside the residence before Ocasio was found. Detectives are reviewing physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and following investigative leads as they seek to identify any suspects and determine the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
