Three people lost their lives and another person was injured following a devastating multi-vehicle crash involving a rideshare vehicle, a motorcycle, and a hit-and-run driver early Sunday morning in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Maryland State Police have launched an extensive investigation as they work to identify the driver who fled the scene after the deadly collision.
According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Route 301 (Crain Highway) and Governors Park Lane in Upper Marlboro. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a serious multi-vehicle collision involving multiple victims.
A preliminary investigation by Maryland State Police determined that a black Tesla Model 3 was attempting to make a left turn onto Governors Park Lane when it allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way to a southbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling along Route 301. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the Tesla, causing a violent impact.
Authorities believe the Tesla was operating as a rideshare vehicle at the time of the collision, although investigators have not yet released additional information regarding the driver or any passengers who may have been inside the vehicle.
Police said the crash became even more tragic moments later when a third vehicle struck the motorcycle passenger after the initial collision. Instead of stopping to render aid or report the crash, the driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving investigators searching for both the vehicle and its driver.
The collision claimed the lives of three people, while one additional person sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victims as officials work to notify their families.
Maryland State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the sequence of events that led to the collision and the actions of the fleeing driver. Detectives are collecting physical evidence, examining the damaged vehicles, and reviewing any available surveillance footage that may help identify the hit-and-run suspect.
