INDIANAPOLIS — A man died in a Wednesday morning shooting on Indy’s north side in what police believe may have been a “targeted incident.”
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:35 a.m. to the 6700 of Woodmere Circle.
They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds near a residence. IMPD said he was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.
According to Drew Brown, a public information officer with IMPD, multiple people called 911 after hearing gunshots in the area. One of those individuals, Brown said, was the suspected shooter.
Brown said the individual reported being approached by two people in masks. That encounter led to gunfire. Investigators have recovered a firearm and said the suspected shooter was cooperating with the investigation.
At this point, investigators believe the person who was shot was one of the masked individuals, according to Brown. The second masked individual was still being sought.
IMPD was investigating this as a potential “targeted incident.” The case remains under investigation.
