HONOLULU (Island News) — A multi-car accident on the Moanalua Freeway on Friday afternoon ended in the death of a man and five people were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
One man was found dead at the scene at an on the Moanalua Freeway near Fort Shafter exit on Friday, according to Dr. Jim Ireland of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.
Two men were taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition following the accident. Two women and one man were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:38 p.m. about the collision and when the first unit arrived on scene at 3:46 p.m., four cars were found with five people still inside.
HFD stabilized a car and used hydraulic rescue tools to remove one of the trapped victims while the rest were able to exit on their own with the help of firefighters. HFD administered medical care to seven people and their care was transferred to the Honolulu Emergency Services Department by 4:20 p.m.
All lanes on the Moanalua Freeway reopened just before 8 p.m. after closures began before 4 p.m.
The suspected factors involved in the crash, such as speed, alcohol or drugs, were not reported at this time.
