Karen Louise Walker, 82, of Apollo, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. She was born on September 29, 1943, in Pittsburgh to the late Robert Gamble and Elizabeth Pechavich Gamble. Her death marks the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose life was remembered for compassion, family devotion and the simple joys she shared with those around her.
Karen attended Vandergrift High School and spent many years working as a caregiver for elderly people. Her work reflected the caring and generous personality that family and friends knew so well. She dedicated herself to helping others and brought that same warmth and kindness into her relationships with the people closest to her.
Outside of work and family responsibilities, Karen enjoyed a variety of hobbies and activities that brought her happiness. She had a particular love for music, especially the songs of Elvis Presley, and enjoyed dancing, drawing, coloring, word-search puzzles, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Karen also had a special affection for the beach, even though she was afraid of the water. She enjoyed taking long car rides with her loved ones and treasured the time spent simply being together. She was also a devoted sports fan who closely followed the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
The Olympics were another favorite of Karen’s. She followed the games closely and often kept her family informed about the latest medal counts, making the event something she could enjoy and discuss with the people she loved.
Above all else, Karen valued her family. Her grandchildren, Arlo and Madison, held a particularly special place in her heart and were described as the light of her life. The time she spent with them was precious, and she cherished the memories they created together.
Karen also shared a close and enduring friendship with Beverly Hanlin, who remained an important part of her life for many years. Their lasting friendship was another reflection of the strong personal connections Karen formed throughout her life.
Karen is survived by her sons, Blain Walker and his wife, Jolene, of Apollo, and Robert Walker and his wife, Michele, of Lower Burrell. She is also survived by her daughter, Antoinette Walker, of Vandergrift.
Her surviving family includes her sister, Roberta Schofield and her husband, Jim, of Apollo, and her brother, Robert Gamble, of Indiana. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Arlo and Madison, as well as her best friend, Beverly Hanlin, of West Leechburg.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Lou Lucjak.
During this difficult time, Karen’s family expressed their sincere appreciation to her nurses, Scott and Amanda, as well as the staff at Life Armstrong. The family thanked them for the compassionate and excellent care they provided Karen during her final days.
Services for Karen will be held privately by her family. Those wishing to honor her memory may send flowers to the family or plant a tree in her name through the Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home.
Karen Louise Walker will be remembered for the love she gave to her family, the kindness she showed to others and the many everyday moments that brought her happiness. As a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to live on with the people who knew and loved her.
