Detectives from the Charleville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have extradited a 71-year-old man in connection with an investigation into alleged child sexual abuse offenses dating back nearly two decades. The man was extradited on July 16 and now faces multiple charges relating to the alleged indecent treatment of a child.
According to police, the alleged offenses are believed to have occurred between January 2007 and March 2009 at several locations in Charleville, Queensland. Investigators allege that the incidents involved child victims and have been the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The 71-year-old has been charged with two counts of indecent dealing with a child, along with one count of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16 and one count of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 12. These are serious allegations, and the charges will now proceed through the Queensland court system.
Police confirmed that the accused is scheduled to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 17, where the charges against him will be formally addressed. As with all criminal matters, the allegations remain before the court, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty according to law.
The investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to seek additional information from the public. Authorities believe there may be other victims or individuals who possess information that could assist investigators in establishing the full extent of the alleged offenses.
Detective Inspector Andrew Trenerry urged anyone who may have experienced similar incidents or has relevant information to contact police. He emphasized that reporting child sexual abuse is mandatory under the law and reminded the public that failing to report such offenses may itself constitute a criminal offense.
Police also stressed that anyone who comes forward will be treated with compassion, respect, and support throughout the investigative process. Detectives continue to encourage victims and witnesses to speak with investigators as they work to ensure all available evidence is thoroughly examined and that anyone affected receives the appropriate assistance.
