A 37-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a woman in her 80s earlier this year. The case is now moving through the courts as authorities continue their investigation into the fatal crash.
According to West Mercia Police, emergency services were called to Stocks Lane in the Newlands area at approximately 11:40 a.m. on January 8 following reports of a serious road traffic collision involving two vehicles. The elderly woman was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, the woman later died from her injuries. Police have not publicly released her identity.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities charged 37-year-old Jake Quinn, of Jamaica Road in Malvern, with causing death by dangerous driving. He has also been charged with causing death by careless driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis in connection with the fatal incident.
In addition to the charges related to the January crash, Quinn faces separate allegations involving drug-driving offences. Prosecutors allege he drove a motor vehicle with a specified controlled drug above the legal limit on March 9, as well as on two separate occasions on May 3.
Police said Quinn appeared before Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on June 6, where he was granted an interim driving disqualification. The court also ordered that he be remanded into custody pending further proceedings.
Quinn is scheduled to appear before Worcester Crown Court on July 6, where the case will continue. Prosecutors are expected to present evidence relating to both the fatal crash and the additional driving-related charges.
The case remains ongoing, and Quinn is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Investigators have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the collision as legal proceedings continue.
