An Indianapolis man is facing multiple felony charges after prosecutors allege he shot another man during a confrontation on the city’s south side in October 2025. Investigators believe the shooting may have been connected to the overdose of the suspect’s girlfriend, although the exact motive remains part of the ongoing criminal case.
According to court documents filed in Marion County, Antonio Lee, 43, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
Shooting Reported in South Indianapolis
The incident occurred on October 2, 2025, when officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to reports of a shooting in the 4900 block of South East Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered an adult man lying in a parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released updated information regarding his current condition.
Surveillance Video Allegedly Captured the Shooting
According to the probable cause affidavit, investigators obtained surveillance footage that allegedly recorded the shooting.
Police say the video shows a man, whom investigators identified as Antonio Lee, walking into the parking lot from the south before allegedly firing a single shot at the victim.
After the shooting, investigators allege the suspect walked away toward the north.
Court records also state that surveillance footage allegedly showed the suspect touching an electrical utility box with his hand before wrapping the firearm in a shirt and entering a white SUV.
Detectives later used the video as part of their investigation to identify the suspect.
Victim Suggested Possible Motive
While recovering, the victim spoke with investigators about the incident.
According to court documents, he told police he believed he had been shot “for no reason.”
However, he later suggested the shooting may have been connected to a woman who had recently suffered an overdose.
Although the victim said he did not know the suspect’s full name, he identified him as “Tony” and provided detectives with a physical description, including distinctive tattoos.
Investigation Led Detectives to Suspect
Investigators compared the victim’s information with evidence gathered during their investigation into the reported overdose.
According to police, that investigation identified Antonio Lee as the boyfriend of the woman involved in the overdose.
Detectives subsequently assembled a photographic lineup for the victim.
Court records state the victim immediately identified Lee as the alleged shooter, reportedly telling investigators he was “one hundred thousand percent certain” of the identification.
Additional Firearm Charge Filed
Prosecutors also charged Lee with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
According to court documents, Lee has a previous conviction involving drug dealing, making it illegal under Indiana law for him to possess a firearm.
The prior conviction forms the basis for the additional felony weapons charge.
Criminal Charges Filed
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Antonio Lee with:
- One count of Attempted Murder (Level 1 Felony)
- One count of Aggravated Battery (Level 3 Felony)
- One count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony)
If convicted, Lee could face significant prison time under Indiana law.

The charges are based on evidence gathered by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, including surveillance video, witness statements, and the victim’s identification.
The criminal case will now proceed through the Indiana court system, where prosecutors must prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
As with all criminal cases, Antonio Lee is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
