A fatal single-vehicle crash in Queensland’s Tablelands region has claimed the life of a man after he succumbed to critical injuries several days after the collision, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Queensland Police Service’s Forensic Crash Unit.
According to police, the crash occurred during the early hours of July 13 on the Kennedy Highway in Gunnawarra, a rural locality in the Tablelands region of Far North Queensland. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious traffic collision involving a single vehicle.
When first responders arrived, they found the male driver suffering from life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. No other occupants or vehicles were reported to have been involved in the incident.
Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment at the scene before transporting the injured driver to a nearby hospital for specialist care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the man remained in critical condition and later died from his injuries on July 16, three days after the crash.
Queensland Police confirmed that the Forensic Crash Unit has taken carriage of the investigation and is working to determine exactly what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash. Investigators are examining the scene, vehicle evidence, and other relevant factors to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
