JUST IN: A tragic homicide investigation in San Antonio has taken a devastating turn after the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that two young children found dead inside a burned vehicle died from “sharp force injuries.” The ruling officially classified the deaths as homicides and intensified the criminal case already filed against the children’s mother.
According to investigators, 6-year-old Aleeza and 5-year-old Adrian were discovered dead inside a burned white Hyundai during the early morning hours of May 15. Emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire and arrived to find the car heavily damaged by flames. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, authorities located the bodies of the two children inside the vehicle, prompting an immediate homicide investigation.
Police later arrested 34-year-old Marlene Vidal in connection with the case. Prosecutors charged Vidal with capital murder and arson, accusing her of killing her children before allegedly setting the vehicle on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. The medical examiner’s findings that both children suffered fatal sharp force injuries supported investigators’ belief that the deaths occurred before the fire was started.
Court records and investigators have not publicly disclosed a possible motive behind the killings. However, officials stated that evidence collected from the scene, along with witness interviews and forensic findings, led detectives to identify Vidal as the primary suspect. Authorities also said the fire appeared to have been intentionally set.
The heartbreaking case has shocked the local community in San Antonio, with many residents mourning the deaths of the two children. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the timeline of events leading up to the incident while prosecutors prepare the capital murder case against Vidal.
If convicted of capital murder in Texas, Vidal could face the possibility of life imprisonment without parole. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence and conducting additional forensic analysis.
