CICERO, Ind. — An Indiana woman has been arrested after two dogs died when they were allegedly left inside a parked vehicle for approximately an hour outside a restaurant in Cicero, authorities said. The tragic incident has prompted an animal cruelty investigation and renewed warnings from law enforcement about the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.
According to the Cicero Police Department, the incident occurred on Friday, when officers responded to reports involving two dogs that had been left inside a vehicle parked outside a local restaurant.
Dogs Found Unresponsive Inside Vehicle
Police said the two dogs had reportedly remained inside the vehicle for about one hour before they were discovered in critical condition.
By the time emergency responders arrived, both animals were unresponsive. Despite efforts to help them, one of the dogs was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second dog was transported to a nearby veterinary hospital for emergency treatment. However, veterinarians determined that its condition was too severe, and the animal had to be humanely euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.
Authorities have not released the breeds or ages of the dogs.
Woman Arrested on Animal Cruelty Allegations
Following an investigation, police arrested Parina James in connection with the incident.
According to the Cicero Police Department, James has been preliminarily charged with cruelty to animals. Preliminary charges are subject to review by prosecutors, who will determine whether formal criminal charges will be filed.
Officials have not disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the dogs being left inside the vehicle.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident, including the environmental conditions at the time and other factors that may have contributed to the deaths of the two dogs.
